2014 Highlight Reel | The Newman Family

Whew! It's hard to keep up with a blog at all; add in a job, a busy hubby, a TODDLER (how did that happen?!), and life in general and keeping up with this thing is downright impossible! But, I'll do the best I can to keep you all up to date with the in's and out's of our nest. In the meanwhile, watch facebook; I've been told I post a lot there!!

First and foremost, I hope this finds all of you well and healthy as you enter 2015. As I sit here enjoying the end of my winter break I find myself thinking back about all that has happened with us this past year. We've been blessed this year so here's a couple highlights from the Newman's 2014!

As you know, Kimber has kept us quite busy and over the course of her first year I tried my best to give you all monthly updates on how she was growing, developing and learning and all the fun adventures our little family had! Feel free to look back on those fun posts to get a good idea of how most of our year went.

We started the year still adjusting to parenthood but feeling like we had a great grasp on things. I took pictures of every little thing and Kimber had an outfit for every holiday imaginable; you can say I went a little crazy dressing up my real-life baby doll!

By spring time, I was really starting to get involved in my sister-in-law's wedding planning to help her in any way she would let me (I love you Sarah) and planning her wedding shower too! We also celebrated her graduation from "The University Which Shall Not Be Named" ;) and even though she went to that red and blue school, we're still pretty proud of all of her accomplishments! Seriously, congrats Sarah on your graduation from KU and on your marriage to the best Uncle to Kimber. Daniel we love you and are so glad you are officially part of our family!

Also this spring, Vince was able to attend training to become a Tactical Medic (I'm sure I'll say that wrong but hopefully you'll get the idea). I know this will help him advance more in his career as an EMT. It was a rough week doing the single mom thing, but Kimber and I are so proud of all he does for our family!

Then we made it to summer! Summer, the best part of the year for a teacher; paid vacation! Just kidding, I love my job but those 3 months as a stay-at-home wife and now mother is certainly a perk. Kimber and I spent the summer pounding the pavement and logging 3-5 miles a day; I really enjoyed getting out in the fresh air and getting myself into better shape. I even did a 5K and Obstacle Course; not gonna lie, I'm pretty proud of myself! (Sadly, I fell off the wagon when I got back to school but it's a new year and time to get back in shape again! And hopefully do a few more obstacle courses and 5Ks) As usual, we went to a good share of truck pulls...well Vince did! Kimber and I didn't make it to many because I wanted to keep her on her schedule but she certainly enjoyed the few she did make it too! I'm sure I'm missing a few summer highlights, it was busy, but certainly a blast!

In September, my favorite month, Vince and I celebrated our 3rd Wedding Anniversary with our annual photo shoot and then later in the month Kimber celebrated her 1st birthday! We are truly blessed by our little family! I know I say it a lot but I love them both so very much!

After Kimber turned one, I stopped keeping up with the monthly posts so here's the few highlights you've missed out on! This fall has been a fun one and the Christmas season with our TODDLER was certainly a blast!

October
Kimber and big brother Maxx, they are too sweet together!

Carving pumpkins for the first time as a family!
Participating in the Halloween Parade! My little Scarecrow princess took 2nd place in her age division! We'll have to come up with something good next year!

We even got daddy to dress up with us for the parade! I love my scarecrow family!
First trip to the pumpkin patch! Loved picking my own little pumpkin!
Pumpkin patch fun on the horse!
Our family at the Pumpkin Patch!

November

I actually don't remember if this was taken in October or November but we spent the fall cheering on our Cats! I love all her little K-State outfits!

Thanksgiving was spent at the KU Med with my Grandpa following his Triple Bypass surgery. Vince had to work Thanksgiving day and Kimber and I didn't have anywhere else to go so we spent it with G-Poppa!

After Thanksgiving, Daddy took us to pick out our FIRST real tree! So exciting! Kimber and Daddy picked a good one!

December
We got to go to Aunt Bailee's Senior Winter Formal to watch her be crowned queen! Kimber also got to share the royalty dance with Aunt Bails! Too cute!

First taste of Hot Cocoa with Daddy!

Talking to Santa at the Grange Christmas Party!

My little minion helping daddy in the garage!

Making Christmas cookies for Santa!

Christmas Eve services with Mommy!

 Opening Presents Christmas Day

I think that's most of the big highlights from this fall! We had a blessed Christmas and enjoyed watching Kimber tear into gifts and play with them! We look forward to the joy she will continue to bring us! As for our fur-children, the boys are great! Otis still isn't so sure of little sister and Maxx just adores her! I think mommy and daddy are getting more and more comfortable with the dogs around her! And we can't forget Minnie, while she still resides as Queen of the household at Grandma and Grandpa's, Kimber and her have made best buds and can often be found cuddling! Seriously, it's the cutest thing ever!

Well, I think that's most of the highlights of our year! Thanks for sticking through the entire post! My "new year's resolution" is to attend to this blog more, exercise more, drink more water, but most importantly enjoy the time I have with my family to it's fullest!  I wish you and your family a very prosperous 2015! Much love and blessing from our home to yours!

Love,
Vince, Molly and Kimber, Otis & Maxx

Kimber | ONE YEAR OLD!!!

 Weight: 23 lbs 12 oz (81 %-tile)
Height: 29.75 inches (71 %-tile)

***MOMMY DISCLAIMER: Yes, more than three months after K-Girl's first birthday I'm finally sitting down to reflect and write this post. It saddens me that I was "too busy" this fall to make time to write this. I have worked harder this fall at my teaching career than I ever imagined (it's like I'm a first year again) and I'm trying so very hard to savor moments at home with my family when I don't have work to bring home. So here I am, writing Kimber's one year post as she, my 15 month old, tries to push extra buttons!!***

My baby girl has entered the toddler stage! We are so very blessed by your presence Kimber Suzanne. Every day you continue to amaze me as I watch you learn and grow! I love you with all of my heart and I know I've said it before but truly, every smile begins with you!

Feedings
At ONE YEAR OLD, you continue to stick with your routine. You wake up and enjoy a bottle and after an hour or so of toys and your shows you settle down for oatmeal or eggs or french toast sticks and some fruit! You're starting to outgrow a bottle at nap time but sometimes it's a necessity. More and more you are eating solid foods; at some point you started turning down the mixed baby food and refuse to eat the toddler meals so "real" food it is! You also enjoy bananas, applesauce, graham crackers or cherios for snacks! Of course, at bedtime you still enjoy a bottle to settle down.
Pancakes with Peanut Butter!

Sleeping
You're sleep schedule is pretty great! Any more you go to bed around 8/8:30 and wake up about somewhere between 7:30 and 8:30, sometimes later! You're also on a normal nap time schedule too! You'll nap for about an hour or so around 11 a.m. and again around 2:30/3:30 p.m.! It's pretty awesome I must say! I know you've been growing more and more lately so some nights you take an extra middle of the night snuggle and re-bink and then you're back out!

Last bedtime before we woke up a ONE YEAR OLD!

Clothes/Diapers
You're in 12 month clothes and jammies all the way around! We still don't wear much in the way of shoes but you out grew those 3s quick; size 4 is where it's at! You're still in size 3 diapers. We tried size 4's for a bit, those were massive, we'll stick with size 3 for a while longer!

Teeth
You still have only two teeth! I heard that babies the teeth later have stronger teeth; lets hope so!!

Milestones
WE HAVE A WALKER! Yes, WE HAVE A WALKER!! One week before you turned one you just got up and took off! You're still not totally sure on your feet but you are toddling around and mommy couldn't be prouder! Even better, you started walking the week of State Grange session and got to be a part of your first Rose Drill in the Sixth Degree! What a proud moment for mommy!
My pretty Rose Girl!

Other News:
We had a great birthday party! So thankful for all who came to celebrate you! You were spoiled to pieces! And you were a champ at smashing your cake! Thanks to Aunt Bails for taking pics at your party!!

As usual, the boxes and bags were a bigger hit than the gifts :)
