Pinterest Brings out the Crafty in Me...

This week has been crazy at the Newman house with me going back to school for the start of a new semester and leaving Maxx, the new puppy, at home for the first full day all alone! Thankfully it was only a two day week at school, the weekend was much needed!

Since it was such a hectic week I thought I'd post some of my recent Pinterest inspired projects I completed for the holidays and such. I'm kind of proud of myself! I'm usually crafty anyways but it takes the right mood for the creative juices to flow; thankfully Pinterest has given me all kinds of inspiration!

Project #1 - House Divided Baby Rag Quilt
When I found out my cousin Cody and his wife, Becki, were expecting I knew I had to make them something that was appropriate for each of their sports team loyalties. While on Pinterest, I came across this rag quilt that looked so cute and fluffy and decided I wanted to make one someday. The more I thought about that quilt the more I thought it would be a great gift for my soon to be "nephew". (Cody and I are close enough to be brother and sister  so calling Colt my nephew is much less confusing than "my cousin's baby"). So the K-State/KU rag quilt project ensued; here's the finished product!

I followed this great tutorial from creationsbykara.com in case you find yourself wanting to make one too! I hosted Becki's Baby Shower at our new home, shortly after we moved in. It was at that shower, that I presented Becki and Baby Colt this quilt!

Project #2 - Baby Onesie's
Okay, anyone can design a baby onesie but I got the idea for the design off of, you guessed it, Pinterest! Sticking with the house divided theme, I just had to make something to get a rise out of someone. Aunt Molly won't let Colt go without any purple in his wardrobe, you can be sure of that! Since the church was also hosting a baby shower for Cody & Becki, I needed another creative gift for my soon-to-be "nephew".
Of course, I made the 'K-State in my blood' onesie first, because we all know it's the most important! After I got the front of the onesie's done, I had the awesome idea to toss the "other teams" logo on the rear end! Here's how the finished product turned out!
To be fair to Becki, I made sure Colt would have one that said 'KU is in my blood' too. I just didn't get any pictures of it due to the fact that my phone is also a K-State fan! ;) Just kidding, I mean it all in fun! No tutorial on how to do these, I simply used an iron-on transfer and made the design on my computer!

Project #3 - Nativity Scene Wall Hangings
This Christmas season I became obsessed with Nativity scenes after visiting the Centenary UMC Festival of Nativities in Lawrence with our UMW group. Of course, at this same time Pinterest was full of Christmas DIY ideas and I came across the most beautiful hanging scene on a friend's pin board. One look at the picture and I knew recreating one for myself would be incredibly simple. All I did for this project was pick up a couple cheap (95 cent) black frames at Walmart, photo paper, a roll of festive ribbon and I was set. I did a google search of nativity silhouettes and picked my favorite, non-copyrighted images and printed them off. After placing the pictures in the picture frames, I stapled the ribbon to the cardboard backs of each frame and, voila! finished product!
I made two nativity scenes to be sold at our annual church bazaar. Unfortunately, no one bought them but I caught my Grandma eyeballing them and knew I had a perfect Christmas gift to give her! My mom is also a nativity nut so I gave her the second one. Now I need to make myself another one!

Project #4 - Custom iPhone Case
After drawing Bailee's name for Christmas and seeing an iPhone case on her wish list, I knew I had pinned a perfect project a few months back! All I needed was a clear iPhone case, scrapbook paper (glittery zebra print for Bailee!) and some embellishments. The nice thing about these cases is she can easily change out the designs depending on her mood, without having to buy a whole new case, so I made her three designs to start out!
Notice, this can also be done with your favorite photos! I would recommend using embellishments that lie completely flat such as stickers as you may have issues keeping the case closed if they're too thick. Wanna make some for yourself? Here's the link to the tutorial and a design template!

Well, that's the extent of my craftiness here lately! I've also tried several recipes that were winners too! And Pinterest has given me some great photography inspiration for Custom Photos by Molly. Thanks for sticking around for another lengthy post from the Newman house! Good night and have a great week!
